Jessica woke up this morning complaining of a headache, as soon as I felt her I realized she had a fever as well. I took her temp and it was 103.7, she was shivering and complaining that her stomach hurt as well. I gave her some Tylenol and tried to call the doctor but couldn't get through to anyone. Since she was just in the ER for these same symptoms (though this time a much higher fever) I went ahead and just took her into the doctor without an appointment. The receptionist was not impressed but did manage to get us in to see the doctor right away so I was relieved.
They did a strep and flu test on her again, both of which came back negative again. The doctor then ordered x-rays of her stomach. Even though she had a CAT Scan last week, there were no comments regarding her intestines so they wanted to rule out severe constipation or something along those lines. We should have the x-ray results this afternoon. While the x-rays could explain the stomach pains it still doesn't explain the fever so we still aren't sure what is going on. I will update as I get answers from the doctor.
UPDATE: I got the call back from the doctor on the x-ray. They said she has a moderate amount of stool in her intestines and after her fever goes away they want me to give her a cap full of miraLax daily to cleanse her. She was feeling pretty good for a little bit so I gave her a small handful of blueberries and half of a turkey sandwich as well as about 2 T of prune juice diluted in water. She wasn't impressed with the juice but I was able to get her to drink some. I'm hoping she'll get some relief in the next 24-48 hours and feel better!
UPDATE #2: I just got back from the store, I picked her up the MiraLAX as well as apple juice, dried prunes, applesauce, and mandarin oranges. I gave her a little bit of the MiraLAX in some apple juice and she drank it all no problems. Then I gave her the dried prunes and told her to have at them, she loved them and had a few right away. HOPEFULLY the combination of everything she has had will produce some results tonight or tomorrow and she can get back to normal.
UPDATE #3: She still has a high fever and I can't seem to be able to get it down below 100 degrees (under the arm). She is thankfully still drinking liquids but she's not eating much. I called the doctor this morning to let them know I'm not having any luck getting her temp down and they said if the fever persists throughout today to make an appointment again for tomorrow. So it looks like once again Jess will be missing a party at school. Poor girl always manages to get sick during the fun stuff at school; 100th day, Election day, Valentine's Day party, etc.
